Dub Pies - Brooklyn

Loved Everything About It, Except....
DUB stands for Down Under Bakery, which, if you haven't figured it out by now, means this is an Ozzie meat pie place (as in Australian.) However, to add to the confusion, the owner is from New Zealand. None of this matters to the pies - which are fantastically tasty. I've been a few times, most recently I snagged a Thai chicken pie, shown below. It was a spicy treat delivered in a flaky pastry shell. Really good.

The shop itself is pretty funky. Your typical East Village meets Red Hook "found" furniture vibe. Big front window to look out of while you chomp on your pie. So what is the issue? What is the "except" in the title all about?

Simple - these delicious little treats are totally overpriced. They are in the $5.50 to $5.75 range. They are not so big to be priced like that. It would take two of these to fill my stomach and I am not even a big eater. I suspect most of what makes up the price is the ridiculous rent for the shop, in an area that was "hot" at the peak of the market. I am usually wrong so feel free to ignore the next sentence. My guess is it won't be long before you see a "for rent" sign in the window. That would be a shame - these little suckers are good! UPDATE: THEY ARE NOW CLOSED. Hate to say it, but I was right about this one....
