My boy Hatebean and I went for a couple of nice lil Aussie pies for lunch today at the Tuck Shop on the LES (Lower East Side.)
I once again had a Thai Green Chook Currie Pie, which was
as spicy and delicious as always. I added a dash of sweet
curry sauce and was off to the races. I cannot think of a more
perfect lunch.
Unlike my last visit, there were Lamingtons available. I jumped
at the chance. A lamington is a sponge cake with chocolate
and coconut frosting and a strawberry jam center. I was totally
unimpressed. It was dry and tasteless.

Oooo.. Aussie meat pies... Yummz.. As Gorilla says, the Thai Green Chook Curry pie with the sweet chilli sauce (I think it shd be chiili sauce not curry sauce) was good... the pie crust was light and the fillings was tasty... and that included the specials for the day, which I had... Prawn pie.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, I have to say that it is still a far cry from what you get from Downunder. The sizzling hot pie on top of a mountain of mash peas/potatoes with piping hot sauce... ummm... that is really quite hard to beat. Found the link for Gorilla to check it out... http://www.harryscafedewheels.com.au/Home.aspx?element=1&category=1
I never been down under, Puff. Someday, if I am lucky. Until then, I will cruise over to the Tuck Shop from time to time for their tasty pies.
