Excellent Pork Chop House - Manhattan

Name Changes Being Proposed...
I propose two name changes. First, I'm thinking of renaming my blog "Lunch Dummy" - lately I've simply been mimicking the visits made by the Lunch blog. Next, I propose that this place (discovered on the Lunch blog of course) change its name from "Excellent Pork Chop House" to "Fabulous Wonton Spot." I of course had the namesake pork chops - they were definitely not excellent. Passable at best. Couldn't figure out how they spice em - not a big fan of the spice-ology.

However, not the case with the wonton. They came drizzled in a spicy oil laced with garlic. These babies were so good that we ordered another batch and dunked our noodles into the leftover oil. Next time I go back for two plates of wontons, I will offer up my new name to the owner. Stay tuned.

  1. The wonton is definitely yummilicious. The wonton skin was soft and the sauce was tasty. Only problem is the garlic leaves an aftertaste for a long time.... not advisable if one has a meeting to attend after lunch.

  2. Hey, let your fellow meeting people get a nice good whiff of garlic. Bump them, says I.

  3. mmm... i still maintain they have a great pork chop. it might just be something that you have to grow up eating. it's a very taiwanese style type of thing? or maybe i'm wrong on that. my cuz from taiwan came once and said it was exactly like a place with the same name in taipei.

have you had any of the other small dishes on the menu?

  4. Danny, probably just an upbringing type of thing. I grew up eating chops with a totally different flavor.

Man, those wonton were great though (and I didn't grow up on them.)
