Frenchie - Paris

Frenchie, R.I.P
I have a Slingbox, which is a life-saver for a TV-addicted American living in Paris.  I can watch my NY television here in Paris and keep up with my favorite shows.  I was just watching a recent episode of Bourdain's "No Reservations", the one where he returns to Paris after a few years away.  Half-way through the show there was a shot of him walking up rue du Nil.  I recognized it right away and my heart sank.  I started screaming at my TV "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!  Don't tell 'em about Frenchie!!!"

It was already difficult to get a seat at this tiny gem, now it will be impossible.  This is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to in Paris, period.  Frenchie is the Truth.  Funky neighborhood in the 2nd, perhaps 10 tables, one amazing chef, one or two helpers and a limited menu of market-sourced fare priced like a fire sale.  Say goodbye to whimsical combinations like speck, parmesan, balsamic vinegar and peaches.  Yes, peaches.  Suprising and delicious.

I guess I could go down there from time to time and press my forehead against the window and see what the lucky are eating.  I imagine seeing someone eating the eggplant caponata with sea parsley and onions.

In no time my forehead starts to stain the window and a circle of fog from my panting is making it hard to see.  Diners are pointing at me.  I don't care, I want to tell them "Hey, I've had that gnocchi!  The red currants make it smack-a-licious, right?"

In this dream,  I see the slice of Napoleon cheese with truffle honey.  Mmmmmmm, man that was good. - a dream within my dream.

The pot of chocolate with rasperry sauce and fresh raspberries isn't even necessary - a waste - the preceding has already knocked me for a loop.  Frenchie, I am going to miss you, badly.
